THE ARTS

Students engage in Visual and Performing Arts lessons in our well-equipped adjoining Art and Music Rooms. An adjacent undercover outside area provides an excellent space for working on large projects and participating in creative music and dance sessions.

Visual Arts (Terms 1 and 2)

All students from Foundation to Year 6 attend weekly one hour specialist lessons and engage in a range of activities to develop interest, creativity and confident expression of original ideas. Art elements such as colour, line, shape, form and texture are explicitly taught. Processes used in drawing, painting, printing, collage, construction, modelling, textiles, design and mixed media are demonstrated and students explore these techniques using a range of materials and express their own ideas through the art they create. Students respond to artwork produced by their peers and are encouraged to reflect on specific aspects of their own work. Artwork is celebrated, viewed, discussed and displayed. Students learn about famous and contemporary artists and their work and they examine art from historical, cultural and indigenous perspectives.
